International Women’s Day and the right for women victims of gender-based violence

International Women’s Rights Day: Focus on a judgment by the Court of Justice of the European Union confirming the right to international protection for women victims of gender-based violence.
In April 2023, an internal conflict broke out in Sudan between the Sudanese Armed Forces (SAF) led by the chairman of the Transitional Council, General Al-Burhan, and the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF) led by general Hemedti. Following the outbreak of this violent internal conflict, the CGRS suspended the processing of all Sudanese cases.
Today, the Council of Ministers appointed Annick Goeminne as Deputy Commissioner at the CGRS. She will assume her new position on 4 March 2024. She will assist Commissioner General Sophie Vanbalberghe, as the other Deputy Commissioner Christophe Hessels has been doing since the beginning of 2022.
Because of the developments in the country, the processing of applications for international protection filed by Russian nationals was temporarily blocked.
CGRS resumes the processing of all Palestinian cases

Following the escalation of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict in October, the CGRS decided to temporarily suspend decisions to grant or refuse subsidiary protection status in Palestinian cases.
