Since 1 February 2024, the FTP has come into force, a procedure that makes it possible to take a final decision more quickly for first applications that have little chance of being granted protection status. The CGRS regularly assesses whether countries should be added or removed. As part of the implementation of the European Pact on Migration and Asylum, which will enter into force in June 2026, countries of origin with a protection rate of 20% or less in the EU will in any case have to be included in an accelerated procedure.
Currently, the Fast Track Procedure involves applications filed by persons residing at an address or whose file contains an address, in order to prevent persons living on the streets from being included in the accelerated procedure. For cases included on the list of safe countries, it is sufficient that the applicant has chosen the CGRS as his place of residence.
The countries included in the FTP are reviewed on a regular basis and the list is updated accordingly. The following groups are currently included in the FTP:
- the safe countries of origin (currently Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, North Macedonia, Kosovo, Montenegro, Serbia, India and Moldova);
- Georgia (including accompanied minors);
- Benin;
- Angola.
Each individual case is thoroughly screened upon arrival at the CGRS, i.e. after transfer from the Immigration Office. If certain elements are present, such as a particular vulnerability, the CGRS may nevertheless decide not to include the case in the FTP.
