The European regulation on asylum and migration management provides that:
- If Belgium is responsible, the CGRS will examine the application for international protection.
- If another EU member state is responsible, the IO requests the other member state to take charge of or take back the applicant.
- If the EU member state confirms to take charge of or take back the applicant but the applicant does not agree, (s)he can lodge an appeal with the Council for Alien Law Litigation (CALL).
